Hi all, I’ve set out on a new venture! I’ve started a campaign to educate business owner’s and individual’s on the proper way to legally sell an abandoned vehicle. I’m not sure how this is going to set in with some people because I’ve learned that vehicles are being sold without a title or without proper documentation, replacement titles are being issued fraudulently. As we all know, we live in a sue happy society. People need to be educated on the proper way to dispose of an abandoned vehicle, it only takes one time for you to be convicted of a felony. If you dont get help from me, please get help from somebody.

Tag Issuing Offices
March 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment
I have a few run-ins with the tag issuing offices. The way I look at it, if the tag offices will not process the abandoned vehicle lien documents, then I will. But this recently got me into a little conflict. A conflict, I did not welcome or expect. One of my clients took their paperwork to the tag issuing office, and they would not process it, so I took it upon myself to process it, and send the paperwork to Montgomery for the title to be issued, I have that right sense I am an Alabama Title Agent.
In return, my client took the copy of the title application and the bill of sale to the tag office to purchase a tag, and to my surprise, they still would not issue a tag, saying the abandoned vehicle paperwork was not correct and it will be rejected from the State, so therefore they will not issue a tag and added, who authorized me to ‘over power them’.
Well, this was not what I was trying to accomplish, I did not process the abandoned vehicle paperwork to disrespect anyone. I did this to help my client receive a title and be able to purchase the tag.
I have started using a service through the United State Postal Service called an ‘electronic return receipt’ this receipt is the equivalent to the ‘green card receipt’ that has been in use for many years. I contacted the Alabama Department of Revenue Motor Vehicle Division prior to using this new electronic receipt to see if this was acceptable. I received an email saying it was acceptable as long as it contains the signature of the person who signed for the certified letter, whether it be the green receipt or the electronic, both were accepted.
So, just to let you know, if you have a problem with the tag office accepting this electronic receipt, the problem will be solved shortly. If you have a problem, kindly asked the clerk to please call Montgomery and ask them about the electronic receipt.

Verdict on Storage Charges is in !!
November 9, 2007 · Leave a Comment
Storage charges has been a question many have asked.
Well, it turns out, storage charges are there for a purpose. To protect the vehicle! If you make every attempt to contact the owner’s, lien holder’s and interested parties of a vehicle, storage charges will stand up in court ! They will be required to pay them, before the vehicle is released ! However, you must have a reasonable storage fee. The average storage rate is $10 – $15 a day.

What Can I Charge For Storage??
October 25, 2007 · Leave a Comment
This is a question I have been asked alot. As far as I know, Alabama does not regulate storage charges. the Average storage charges I have come across is around $15 – $20 a day.
If you do not already have a sign up in your business stating your daily storage rate from vehicles left after 3 days of work completed, it might be a good idea to put one up.
I have been told by many people, that if you do not have a license to store vehicles, you can not charge a storage fee. Well, I just dont know about all that yet.
The way I see it, automotive shops invest a lot of money in repairing vehicles, and when a customer does not pay and pick up the vehicle in a timely manner, the shop owner’s investment and space is tied up, so a daily storage rate is added to encourage the owner to pay and pick up the vehicle.
I will be going to court soon on a storage issue soon, I will let you know the out come of the court case. This will clear up, if automotive shops have the right to charge storage fees.
